Head Coach Tom Menas Extended Through 2022 Season
ALBANY, NY - The Albany Empire has officially extended Head Coach Tom Menas through the 2022 season. In his first year with the team, Menas has led the Empire to a 6-1 record and the 1st seed in the playoffs.
Prior to taking the head coaching job in Albany, Menas served as the assistant head coach for the NAL’s Jersey Flight.
Tom Menas is a former NFL and USFL player, and has an extensive coaching resume. Menas coached the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts defensive line from 2004 to 2006, and won a grey cup with the Argonauts in 2005. After his time in the CFL he went into private coaching and athletic training until he returned to the professional circuit with the Oakland (Mich.) club football team. In 2018, Menas was the head coach of the Oakland County Races of the Rivals Professional Football League, and then moved to the IFL’s Green Bay Blizzard where he was the offensive/defensive line and the special teams coach.
Team President Jeff Levack commented, saying “Any coach that can build a team in 10 days that could win this league, and continue to improve it over the season- is that absolutely the right man for the job.”
When asked about the extension, Menas said “I am humbled by this opportunity. This is the first time I have been involved in an organization that from the top down has a family atmosphere. I love this city, and I believe that we have the best fans in indoor football. To be able to have the fans we do, it makes coaching in Albany even better.”
